Saks Potts Is Shutting Down, and other stuff
This Week In Fashion
Not too much happened this week, which was actually perfect and wonderful for me, because I got to write an additional newsletter on the history of sequins and will be sending another additional newsletter out either tomorrow or Tuesday. Fun! Or maybe not, I don’t know how much you like me.
Anyway, let’s get into it!
Copenhagen cool girl brand Saks Potts is shutting down.
You may be thinking, another independent brand bites the dust in the face of large conglomerates with infinite money! Well, no actually. I mean, yes, it is so difficult for small, independent brands to thrive in the current state of it all, but that was not the case for Saks Potts. They were actually doing better than ever financially speaking.
Catherine Saks and Barbara Potts have decided to explore things creatively outside of the brand instead of completely shaking things up within it. Honestly, good for them. While I did love the brand and loved seeing the way it had evolved and matured over the years, there are so many instances in which people don’t know when to walk away. They’re walking out on top and I look forward to see what comes next!
- Mikey Madison for Dazed; Kind of love this, but it’s a little bit Juergen-ish, and since this is a Juergen Teller stan account, no one is surprised that I kind of love it. The shot of her in the Marc Jacobs Marilyn dress in front of the Anora poster?! So many layers to unpack. Also the Rick boots paired with the full Ferragamo fit is insane work. Styled by Kyle Luu.
- Vogue Italia December Issue; So much deliciousness happening here with all six covers. It can be hard to capture that perfect, no camera phone era party photo, but I think Rafael Pavarotti did quite the job. Styled by Katie Grand.
- Bowen Yang for Interview; I love Bowen so much and I love that this editorial is very Interview while also being very Bowen in the silliness of it all. Styled by Briana Andalore.
- Lanvin is coming back with a co-ed show in January. Kind of fab. It’s Peter Copping’s debut, which I am very excite for, and places him in a very advantageous position. We’re back in Paris, it’s around mens and couture, and perhaps allows a resort collection?
- Vogue World 2025 will be in Hollywood. This’ll be the fourth year that the event takes place, and I still couldn’t tell you wtf it is. Like, I know they raise money, but what is it?
- Kendrick Lamar wore a hand-made belt by ERL, because he’s always had taste. Eli Russell Linnetz had made one for the brand years ago, and Kendrick wanted one for himself, and it was of course one of the few requests that Linnetz accepted. All the vintage pins are sourced in California, and Linnetz is from California, which just makes sense with GNX’s West Coast-ness.
- Cole Escola wearing Christopher John Rogers Collection 008 on a big pink flamingo in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade actually invented Thanksgiving.
So that was this week! OMW to watch Gladiator ll, because I 100% care about the plot.
TTYL!!!
xx
