Saw Sean McGirr’s debut as creative director for Alexander McQueen, and although I’ll give my full thoughts in my Fall 2024 recap, I’ve never seen a more disrespectful debut. I quite literally can’t think of anything else.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
Fashion icon, Iris Apfel passed away on March 1, 2024, at 102.
Iris was one of the first people, outside of any designer, that peaked my interest as a fashion baby, and without being too on the nose, I just loved how colorfully she lived her life. I think I’m due for a rewatch of her documentary.
- Beyoncé for CR Fashion; The tweets calling her Theyoncé here are so unserious, lmao. I honestly loved this, and although I do think it nicely gets the message across when it comes to all the different versions of Beyoncé, however I wish she’d have more fun with her looks in this way. It’s just so refreshing and fun. Styled by
- Required reading: Chemena Kamali for Vogue, ahead of her debut collection for Chloé— the best debut of the season.
- Linen Moves seems to be the first campaign under Zac Posen, and honestly, I think it’s great. Not only does it feel very current, using a popular song, done, and artist, but it’s also quite reminiscent of the Gap swing commercials from the 90s.
- Burna Boy for G-Star RAW is SO good, and he is so fine. Honestly, the fact that he hasn’t been tapped for more campaigns is criminal, because Burna Boy is a fashion boy.
- I love how much fun Emma and Harry Lambert have with her styling, and how they use their Miu Miu ambassadorship to reference fun moments. This little graphic motif calls back to the SS1998 collection, and while it is cute, I do feel that the top and skirt could be a little smoother. I do love the embroidered, neon green tights, though. I understand that it would limit the shoe choices, but it would have been cool to see the embroidery cover the foot as well instead of stopping at the ankle.
- Oh, this is lovely. The nude illusion here is wild, especially with how beautifully this dress fits. The way these plumes disperse into fringe? Insane, and the color is stunning.
- The coolest! She looks like the chicest crumbled piece of paper I’ve ever seen.
- I was never an Etro girly, but the brand has really been peaking my interest recently. You know I love a good yellow and this little lemon drop moment is so fun. It’s simple, but the suit fits nicely, the sheer shirt underneath is great, and I love that Andrew actually knows how to match a shoe.
- Is this the last Zendaya Dune: Part Two press look that we’ll get? Also, I did see the movie this weekend and it was in fact incredible. Anyway, this might not be the Givenchy or the Thierry Mugler, but it is a beautiful gown. On the runway, there were also these metal plates attached to the model’s hair, but I actually think I prefer it without. It’s very precise in the way the cutouts hit the body, and the gold paillets at the bottom look like a gust of wind just blew them into her.
- Gosh, I just really loved this collection. I hope we keep seeing it. This sheer petticoat over top feels like it brings what’s usually underneath to the outside, and the waist is, of course, snatched. I wish these corset were visible because they are so beautiful. I also appreciate that Anya really sells you on the look through her posing, like, she understands this is an experience.
- Honestly, Florence ate with this one. It’s simple, but it’s different from her usual Valentino looks. Micro pleated are quite integral to the brand, so I love they gather up top, before spreading towards the bottom. The halter, side boob moment is a fun time, as is her silver makeup.
- Austin , taking a page out of Timothée’s handbook in Haider Ackermann. Groundbreaking it is not, but I love the cut of this jacket, and the embroidery at the cuff of the sleeves.
- Timothée wore Prada and gave us a full leather moment, that does fit better than his past leather moments, but still isn’t memorable. I’m sure I could convince myself that this camel color is referencing the Dune of it all, but I’m bored.
- Ugh, I love Tracee. She wears clothing with such an effortlessness, and pairing this with chunky black bangles is so smart, because it really nicely ties in the belted halter. I will say, I’m not sure about the diamonds underneath the halter, but at least they follow the neckline nicely.
- What a pull! This is from the most recent JPG collection by Simone Rocha, and it beautifully balances both of the designers house codes. The ribbons, the laced up side, the thorn bra playing a cone bra, all so good. I do with the dress was tied a little tighter at the bust, so it sat right under that bra, and the glove feels a bit much, but other than that, we love to see it!
- I’m OBSESSED with this. The molded bodice looks like jelly, and I love the patchwork skirt. It’s just the most delicious watermelon fantasy, and Marni is such a fun and quirky brand— their custom pieces have been so good lately.
- Big yawn. It’s tailored well and the pleating in the mermaid is nice, but the puckering in the pelvis is so distracting, especially because the dress is so simple.
- Lewis Hamilton’s outfits are all I know about F1. Gucci might be very uninspired right now, but I did love these sweaters with their embroidered collars.
- I will never shut up about how under appreciated this JPG collection was. Thank god Tilda and Hiader are friends, as this is the second look from this collection that she has blessed us with. The cut of this suit is so perfect, and the way the feathers obscure, but also frame the face? I die.
So that was this week! I should probably start on fashion month recaps, huh?
TTYL!!!
