Newsletters have been on the shorter side lately and I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I do like these weekly check ins since they’re pretty low stakes and feel like an accessible way into fashion, but what I really love is writing fashion week reviews, costume analysis, clothing item histories, etc. The stuff that makes my brain work a little harder.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
Prada Group has acquired Versace from Capri Holdings.
I saw some people upset by this, but I think it’s great? Versace never made sense at Capri Holdings— it always felt like the odd one out. I think going to Prada will give the brand the face lift it needs, and I like that Miuccia and Donatella get along. It’s also funny that the new creative director of Versace used to work at Miu Miu. Miuccia said, not so fast bitch!
Adam Selman is the new creative director and senior vice president of Victoria’s Secret.
Interesting!
Adam used to be over at Savage x Fenty and has collaborated with Rihanna in the past as well. He also had his own eponymous labels (Adam Selman and Adam Selman Sport) that I honestly was kind of obsessed with. I remember really wanting all his workout clothes— y’all remember those high cut leggings? I was OBSESSED. Prior to starting his labels he worked under Zaldy Goco where he actually helped design some of the Victoria’s Secret Angel wings, so I guess it’s a bit of a fill circle moment.
Listen, I like Adam and I’m intrigued by a lot of these great designers becoming creative director’s of fast fashion brands. I also think this could have been a woman. Hi, Nensi Dojaka.
- Jenna Ortega for The Cut; You already know I love some Jessica Willis styling. She’s the best at clean, minimal chic. I say this all the time, but her styling feels like a refreshing ocean breeze. Anyway, love this! Styled by Jessica Willis.
- Aimee Lou Wood for GQ Hype; Fun! Cute! I really enjoy how wearable all these outfits feel, even when featuring something a little bit more “fashion.” Styled by Jessica Gerardi.
- So. Chic. This collection was filled with a lot of yumminess. I really love the way the skirt is pleated here, where around the pelvis it almost looks like there are these extra flaps.
- She never misses, truly. Just so cool. It’s quirky and a little chaotic but always intentional.
- Law Roach announced he is back from retirement and his new muse and client is Ryan Destiny. It’s simple, but it’s nice! Originally the top was styled completely buttoned, and I think I actually the way it’s been styled on Ryan a lot more. It also makes it feel more appropriate for evening.
- Julia just gets it. Honestly, all the Marni looks were really good from this night, but Julia’s obviously took the cake for me. There’s just been something so playful, childlike, and artistic about the last few Marni collections, so this styling and glam makes the most sense to me.
- See! More good Marni. To be fare, Caroline is a fashion girl, so I’m not at all surprised, but still. I’m a sucker for a sailor moment.
- Well, yes! Laura tends to keep it quite simple, we often see her in a lot of Saint Laurent, which I’m never mad at, but I love Diotima so much, so this is fun to see! I feel like it still makes a lot of sense with her usual styling, but the texture of this knit is just so delicious and the draping is hot.
- Emma Corrin, being cool, as usual. Here they’re wearing Moschino, and I love! It’s simple and classic, but a little bit off, which feels quite fitting for a Black Mirror premiere. I’m obsessed with the necktie and how it feels like a glitched pussybow blouse.
Then Emma wore Steve O. Smith, who I think is such a fun designer! His work often looks like it’s a black marker sketch that’s been lifted off of the paper. I’ll be honest, while I do like the use of tulle, there is something that feels a bit deflated here when comparing it to the lookbook.
- I feel like we don’t see Chet Lo out and about enough, and I would like for that to change. Very nice, and the skirt is in that signature durian knit.
So that was this week! My mom wants me to go shopping with her so I can style her for Easter.
TTYL!!!
