I just got back from vacation, except that I did work every day of that vacation, which has made me feel like this past week did not at all exist, so honestly, we’re reacting to all of this for the first time, together, because I have no recollection of any of it.
Also! I styled some bathing suits for you beyond the beach here, and wrote about Françoise Hardy and why she’s a fashion icon here.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
Earlier this week it was announced that Peter Copping is Lanvin’s new artistic director, and I for one, am excited.
Most recently Copping was at Balenciaga as head of couture since 2021, which now may perhaps explain why this most recent Balenciaga collection wasn’t all that incredible. He’s also worked under Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton for a decade on womenswear, and was the creative director of Nina Ricci from 2009-2014. If you haven’t seen his Nina Ricci, I highly recommend giving it a look, because it’s so funky and good. After that he was at Oscar de la Renta, personally chosen by Oscar as his successor, mind you.
I’m very excited to see where this new chapter of Lanvin goes, because I find Peter’s work very compelling. It’s also nice that they went with someone who isn’t a huge name to the general public instead and didn’t go the celebrity route. This is also a stark difference from the direction they went in with Lanvin Lab by Future. The reaction to that was focusing on all the wrong reasons to be upset, but generally I’m not a huge fun of celebrity led collections and that one wasn’t any different, so this feels like a win to me!
- Law Roach for PAPER; Honestly, Law styling himself for this is so funny and major. I like the range, it all feels very him, and the teddy bear coat!!! Styled by Law Roach.
- This is the third year of Vogue World and I still don’t know what the hell this event is. I don’t think I ever will, and I’m at peace with that. Anyway, Cara Delevingne in JPG by Simone Rocha is most pleasing to me. As I’ve made clear multiple times, I love a sailor moment and the second I saw those little hats come down the runway, I shed a tear. She looks so good. Love the rose thorn cone bra and the layered corsets playing on the layered ruffles underneath. Also, the severe ballet shoe?!
- Venus Williams is a fashion girl and we don’t talk about it enough! This Marine Serre look is made out of recycled tennis bags. Like? Shut UP. It seems to play on ideas of corsetry, and all things considered I think it’s made really beautifully. It makes sense for the brand, as sustainability is a priority for them and they do a lot of sportswear, and it makes sense for Venus… because tennis.
- Aya Nakumara is like Parisian royalty. They love her over there, and I feel like we should love her more over here too. Jean Paul Gaultier pretended to finish dressing her, in this look from his last collection, right before her performance, and yeah it was a little silly, but that’s okay. She looks STUNNING. The belted corset is delicious, and I actually really enjoy the ruffle in the slit.
- You guys, I can’t believe how much I’ve been enjoying Givenchy’s design studio while we wait for a creative director. I love this white, tiered cake look. I’m very into the monochrome styling, and I don’t know, I can’t stop looking at this.
- It’s actually crazy that more celebrities haven’t worn this itty bitty Rick Owens bra. Like? Kim Kardashian, you are slacking on your brand. Anyway, very cool, very good, very love.
- She also wore this JPG to the Fall 2024 Couture show, and okay Emma!! Love the floating shirt— an incredible way to do something simple.
- It’s very rare that we don’t see Emma wearing Louis Vuitton, and as you know, I am The Row pilled, so I do enjoy this. No, all jokes aside, I think it’s fun and quirky, and for some reason I feel like it makes sense for the movie. There’s something very 2010s J.Crew about it.
- Ayo, one of our favorite fashion girls, has been wearing a lot of Loewe since the Met Gala, and I’m not mad at it. This is one of my favorite Loewe collections, and I find it continued to explore this idea of interiors and art that Jonathan has been focusing on, and this bubble hem dress feels like a reconfigured comforter. It’s simple, but stunning, and adds playfulness to the mundane as Jonathan Anderson always does.
- Jeremy Allene White, a Calvin Klein ambassador, wore Calvin Klein. I believe this is the second time we’re seeing him wear a suit by them, and as we know, runway is coming back for the brand, so it’ll be interesting to see how their relationship evolves. I like this suit! It fits quite well, and I very much enjoy that the show is not black. It’s very Calvin in the American sportswear of it all, but how sick would it be if they pulled something from the menswear archive for him? Hot.
- Imagine him ever missing? Imagine Wayman & Micah (Colman’s stylists) ever missing? You can’t! This pinstripe, short suit is so clean, and I love the casual touch with the Yankees hat. The shirt sticking out from underneath is a great touch, and everything about this is most pleasing to me.
- Luke Newton supported Jonathan Bailey’s The Shameless Fund by wearing this ‘Drink Your Milk’ shirt in collaboration with Loewe. This t-shirt is so good. I’m vegan, but I’m a Jonathan Anderson stan first.
- While not incredibly memorable, this was a really lovely look for Kylie. This is based on a look featured in the Fall 2024 Couture collection, and I honestly like Kylie’s version better. I think it makes more sense for the length to be longer, and I like that you can see the thigh highs through the sheer fabric. The silk shawl is lovely, and I like the veiled face— the models on the runway were styled the same, and it made their faces almost look projected onto them.
- Doja always gives you full fantasy, and I’m obsessed with this. She’s wearing thousands of rose petals, and I love the way the headpiece looks like a little swirled piece of hair. The cigarette holder, the makeup— it all works.
- I also need you to look at Daniel Roseberry’s bone denim shirt with keyhole buttons. That is all.
So that was this week! I’m going to try to get some couture reviews to you, but I’m playing a lot of catch up right now, so we’ll see!
TTYL!!!
