Hey kids, how are we this week? I’m back from vacation, and while my digestion is happy, my mental health is not! Have already been scouring Airbnb for various European locations. Anyway, this week, all the main fashion lewks took place at the Venice Film Festival, which will get its own newsletter, so don’t worry, I didn’t forget to swoon over Jodie Turner-Smith this week!
Can’t believe this collection is responsible for the peace between America and England. Anyway, the Richard Quinn x Tommy Hilfiger collab is here and I am pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoy it. The prints and kink are very Richard Quinn, while the denim and collegiate vibe is very Tommy Hilfiger. Although not a collab you might have immediately come up with, it works.
Camille Miceli continues to explore different ways to use the silk handkerchief in this collection, and I think it’s really fun! The collection has a bit of a boho/disco feel, and introduces knitwear which is something we really haven’t seen from the brand before; the cropped, ribbed knit, bibs are a fun time. Fringe, a Camille staple, and patchwork also helped make up the knits, and patterns are not lacking. It’s nice to see a collection that is evidently Pucci without relying on the logomania trend. I also like how the black clothing appears to act as a background for all the colors and prints. Also, the boots!!! The Pucci girl has a busy life; she’s waking up at 6AM to head to the farmer’s market before doing a Pilates class, then meeting her girlfriends for a late brunch, and finally doing a quick change before going out to party all night long. Although I might have a soft spot for Pucci, I do think this collection is fun, and I can’t wait to see more of what Camille brings to the brand!
- Megan Thee Stallion for The Cut; I want more of this for Megan!!! I love seeing her in something other than a dress with a high slit and cutouts. I think the latex used throughout ties everything together nicely and the white Vivienne Westwood dress is the perfect contrast to the latex. The Schiaparelli look is stunning, and is honestly the ultimate hot girl church look. I love Interior, and this dress getting a moment more than once now is well deserved, because it’s stunning. Styled by Jessica Willis.

- Sky Ferreira for Interview; What better way to usher in the Indie Sleaze era than have Sky Ferreira wear full Celine by Hedi Slimane for Interview magazine? None of the looks are that insane, and you know how I feel about Hedi’s Celine, but all of this makes sense to me, and it works, so I can’t be mad. Tumblr would be eating these photos UP in 2015. Styled by Victoria Sekrier.
- Meghan Markle for The Cut; These photos are truly stunning. There’s not all that much to say about the fashion, but the Tory Burch dress is really lovely, so I like that it got its moment. I also really love that she got a little Bottega moment and the closure on the Proenza Schouler jacket is interesting. Styled by Jessica Willis.
- Manu Rios for Interview; This is objectively good, if you don’t agree, you’re wrong. Right off the bat, I love the Thom Browne, and the tweed sailor mini skirt and jacket with jockstrap sticking out is just too good. I also really love how the cropped button up is sheer. The other Thom Browne moment is just as good; love the idea of a tweed board short, and the tweed boat shoes are SENDING me. Virginie is screaming. The Miu Miu school girl gone rogue look is also very good, and paired with the Prada boot it just works. I think the Gucci x Adidas suit is great! The blue corduroy is lovely, and I love the blend of the logos. The Loro Piana suit is giving nerdy dad in a 70s sitcom that the writers didn’t intend for you to have a crush on, but you do anyway. The Salvatore Ferragamo suit is simple and hard to see given the pose, but it looks like it has an interesting texture, and the Diesel shoe is great! Styled by Marc Forne.
- Olivia Wilde for Interview; Everyone hates this shoot, and while I’m not sold on it, it’s not for the same reasons as everyone else. I think the fashion story is fun and I really enjoy the styling for the most part; we love Harry Lambert. But the problem for me, is that I don’t feel like Olivia is the one for this shoot? It’s like when someone tells a joke, but the other person is not in on the joke, you know? Anyway, this Emil Dernbach dress and how it makes her look like a headstone in a graveyard is fun, and having her hair twirl around the tree makes it look like she’s been there for ages. I love the 80s of it all when it comes to the JW Anderson look, and Kristin Son headpiece looks like a participation award. Although you can’t see it well here, these Miu Miu dresses are really sweet, so I like how feral this photo feels. I know this isn’t a wearable look, but I feel like we should wear tights as pants more often. Paired with a Schiaparelli top and Valentino platform, it’s very, don’t look at me!!! But also, did you see my top? Honorable mention to the JW Anderson pigeon clutch in the corner; a star. Death by mattress in Balenciaga is fine, and the Richard Quinn with all the florals surrounding is great. The neckline of the Carolina Herrera dress, however, is something I will never understand. I like the Gucci dress, and the frilled trim on the sleeves. Although they’re different decades, the vibe of this shoot kind of ties in the back-in-time setting of Don’t Worry Darling, and this dress feels like its referencing the sci-fi, Twilight Zone feel of it. Styled by Harry Lambert.
- Vogue Philippines; The first cover for Vogue Philippines, and it’s truly stunning. American Vogue continues to be the ugly stepsister of them all.
- Everyone STAY CALM, Peter Do is launching menswear and unisex for SS23. I feel like NYFW is really gonna eat this season.
- Almost forgot to include ‘Love on Tour’ looks this week, but we did it! The looks started strong with a denim cowboy moment. I’m into it. Love a shirtless best moment and I like the star embroidery.
Next we got this sparkly, red and pink striped look, and it’s kind of giving me David Bowie. I’m also into this, and I think these two looks are some of my favorite so far.
Then it got a little less exciting. The exact same pattern on the top and bottom is interesting, and I think the color story is supposed to be giving watermelon sugar, but is it?
The girlboss mint chevron print is back. I like the overalls and how the scoop reflects that of the waistcoats Gucci has been doing lately, but I’m not sure on this pairing.
- Really love seeing a Chet Lo moment and Kali Uchis in this ‘durian’ knit dress is stunning. The crossed neckline to create the halter is great, the keyhole cutout is sexy, and the pink lemonade ombré is yummy. I love how the arm band matches the heel as well.
- Jonathan Van Ness wore Christopher John Rogers, and while we all know i love CJR (and JVN), I’m a little disappointed. This dress is a really beautiful gray color with rainbow thread throughout, and has a stunning sillohette. Here, I feel like the shape of the skirt is lost, the pleating is spread to far, and the torso area has lost structure. This to no fault of JVN, and has more to do with the fact that a lot of dresses are still made with a woman’s body in mind even though anyone should be able to wear whatever they want. I love seeing fashion be more fluid, but I also want to see it fit well, and that’s something that designers and stylists will continue to have to work on until that inclusivity is really the norm.
So that was this week! I will be now diving back into Venice Film Festival fashion, and trying to figure out how I can get myself cast in a movie so that I can be there next year.
TTYL!!!
