I literally thought yesterday was Saturday until I woke up this morning. It’s a good thing that I never wake up later than 6AM, regardless of what day of the week it is. It’s also a good thing that this was another slow week, so we just have some outfits to discuss, amongst a few other misc. items.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
- Chloë Sevigny for Vogue France; Just the coolest girl being cool, what do you want me to say. I know I talk a lot about how simple and inspired American Vogue editorials often are, and I’m sure that has a lot to do with focusing on making sponsors happy, but this editorial is quite simple as well, however it’s still interesting? The clothing might not be styled or shown in a way that convinces someone this is the latest item that should be on their wish list, but it serves the photo and the ~vision~ and I find it to be more effective. Styled by Jasmine Hassett.
- Margot Robbie and her stylist, Andrew Mukamel, are releasing a book called, Barbie™: The World Tour, and honestly, brilliant. Since the Barbie press tour was cut short due to the strikes, a lot of the looks made for Margot were never seen, so the two worked with photographer, Craig McDean, to shoot each look as it was meant to be seen. The marketing for this movie needs to be studied, truly. Andrew did such an incredible job styling her for this as well, and I’m actually excited to see all the looks and all the tidbits about them!
- Millie Bobby Brown is starting a clothing line. Deep sigh. I mentioned this when talking about KHY (speaking of, what ever happened to KHY, is it going to drop off the face of the earth like Kylie’s swimwear brand?), but I often feel like celebrity clothing lines are just glorified merch— just another way for them to make money off of people that they know will buy anything that they put out. The way she describes it, this collection is meant to be about comfort, and a way for young girls to explore their personal style. Well, okay!
- Kim Kardashian is the new face of Balenciaga… again. This is interesting, especially because Kim was “rethinking” her relationship with the brand after their scandal, but like, we obvi knew she didn’t care. I mean, this women’s divorce was sponsored by Balenciaga, let’s be so real.
- Zendaya attended the Schiaparelli Spring 2024 Couture show and gave us goth pony realness. The collection was partially inspired by Daniel Roseberry’s home state of Texas, and so we saw these dressage silk knows on some of the pieces, as seen here on Zendaya’s top. Then we have this horse tail, bustle skirt that is absolutely mad. I’m obsessed.
She also attended the Fendi Couture show, and she obviously looks stunning, but the look isn’t as major. This dress was seen on the runway in a different color way, and it’s just uninspired, as is much of Kim Jones’ Fendi. This wrap, halter style feels like a continued exploration of those bandage styles we saw last season, however, other than that, it’s quite boring and the sleeves are very bunchy.
- Hunter Schafer was also at the Schiaparelli Couture show, in a big a simpler number, however I do think she looks lovely. It’s very stripped back, black and gold, Schiaparelli, and it fits her nicely. Speaking of fit, when talking about how they settled on this look, she said that it was really just the one that fit the best. I respect her and her stylist not forcing her into something just for the sake of it, however we all know Hunter is a fashion girl, and I feel like Schiaparelli could have hooked her up with an insane custom look, the same way they did Zendaya.
- My biggest problem, however, came with this look they put Da’Vine Joy Randolph in. Here’s the thing, the oyster necklace is stunning, and I’m not mad at an oversized tunic moment, but we know Da’Vine is a fashion GIRL! She’s been serving look after look, and I just don’t believe that they couldn’t have came up with something more compelling for her. It’s always disappointing to see brands not give the same energy to women that are not the traditional sample size, which is why I was so happy to see that incredible Rodarte gown she wore to the Golden Globes.
- The entire cast wore black and white to the premiere of Feud: Capote vs The Swans, and since Chloë has taste, she wore Christopher John Rogers. The gown is made in industrial nylon, which give this classic, dropwaist silhouette, a bit more of a structured, modern feel. I honestly love the bow, and it’s just all so good.
- Demi Moore was also at the premiere, and not only did she wear black and white, but she also wore a swan! I think this is fun, and I believer it’s based on the most recent pre-fall collection. The embroidery and craftsmanship really is beautiful, and having the natural shape of the swan form the neckline and then travel down the body is smart.
- Just Rihanna being unreal in a vintage Vivianne Westwood coat and Saint Laurent dress, no notes.
So that was this week! I have to go continue being a functional adult, even thought the only thing I can think about is the Maison Margiela Spring 2024 Couture show; something shifted.
TTYL!!!
