The Oscars are on tonight and I didn’t realize that the festivities start so early in the day? It’s, like, three, and I’ve already seen Laverne Cox (looking stunning) on the red carpet. It’s been a slow week, but I tried to beef her up as much as I could.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
- Coco Gauff for Vogue; I love Coco and I am so happy for her, but I just wish we’d stop enabling Annie Leibovitz and her bad lightning. Especially when it comes to women of color. The editorial itself isn’t groundbreaking, but this is American Vogue, so what did we expect. I will say, I like that some of the pieces chosen, like a Sacai dress and Gucci set, have a bit of a tennis/sportswear feel. I also love that the Miu Miu look was shot in motion, since Miuccia is always considering functionality, and this Miu Miu girl felt like she was on the move, so. That Michael Kors dress was the only good thing from that collection, and the Chanel moment with the ‘Coco’ chain is cheeky and cute. Styled by Tabitha Simmons.
- Remember when Miley Cyrus posted posted a photo of her brother walking in a D&G show and said, while she did not agree with their politics, she appreciated that they gave young artists a platform. Gabbana replied saying, “We are Italian and we don’t care about politics and mostly neither about the American one! We make dresses and if you think about doing politics with a post it’s simply ignorant. We don’t need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!! #boycottdolcegabbana,” called her ignorant, and said they would never work with her brother again because of her stupid comments. Yeah.
- I literally feel like I’m losing my mind. Lmfao, what is going on?! Dolce and Alexander W*ng, the predator, in one week. Not that this is an excuse, but these brands don’t even make good clothes!!
- Paolo Carzana is one of my favorite independent designers, and it’s so exciting to see Michaela wear his work! I just love how he’s developed a very signature style, even so early on, while telling the most beautiful stories.
- I am no better than a man. No, but actually, this is so much more Kristen than all the Chanel we always see her in. I believe Love Lies Bleeding involves body building, and this bodysuit feels fitting in a modern take on vintage competition wear kind of way. I do think the waistband of the tights is a little harsh, and the lining at the crotch is ruining the line of the bodysuit, but other than that, I’m into it. Actually, I also would have likes to see the blazer on.
- Law and Zendaya got the memo that the 2010’s boho chic revival is in full swing. I love this, and I love how it’s been styled without the fringe necklace that it was paired with on the runway. This way you can see the fringe of the dress and the beautiful neckline better. The bangles are a fun time and it fits her beautifully.
I know Dune: Part Two came out already, but I still feel like this styling is in that universe. This is from the last Jean Paul Gaultier collection by JPG himself, before he started invited guest designers to do the haute couture collections, so it’s special. Speaking of special, perhaps it’s because I personally enjoy doing this, but I love the pairing of a special piece with something more casual. I also like that the amount of chunky bangles was reduced here, because it lets the corset and choker be more of a focal point.
For being a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador, it is shocking how little LV she wears; I wonder what that contract looks like. It’s simple, but I love the halter with this neckline (although the bodice could fit better), and the way the leather belt ruches it together. However, it should have been tailored shorter. Zedaya’s super power is her ability to look good in anything, but the attention to detail here is lacking.
- Dara really knows which Prada collections to choose from. This is a custom look, based on the SS2013 collection, and for Hunter the skirt has been made longer, giving us a little side leg action. I do have to admit, I’m not sold on the white pumps here, but other than that, stun!
- This was so close to being good. I’m obsessed with the lace up skirt, giving us full crack in the back, so much so that I feel the g-string kind of ruins it. The embossed butterfly on her low back would have been enough of a feature, as it slowly starts to make its way into costume territory, as Katy is wont to do. However, my biggest problem is that this doesn’t fit, and I don’t mean it’s not flattering, because you know how I feel about that work, I just mean that the garment is too small, so it’s pulling and ruining the integrity of the shape.
- Now this is how you cut a corset. The girls in the Wiederhoeft atelier are not to be messed with. This is so cute and fun. Wiederhoeft has always been known for their bridal styles, but it’s been so fun seeing them evolve that into evening and ready to wear.
- I’m not familiar with Liza, but when I see CJR, I have to report. She wore a look from Collection 012, and it’s the most beautiful, refined CJR dress. It’s not the usual colorful look we’re used to seeing from the brand, but he can do both, and he does them so well. I love the handkerchief style off the bell shaped skirt, as well as the play on a button up on the bodice.
Chlöe also wore CJR this week— a different end of the spectrum, but also delicious. I would say that cargo pants are a staple of the brand, and paired with this gorgeous, wrapped knit top, it’s perfect. Simple, but simple done well.
- For the launch of the Barbie World Tour book, Margot wore custom Versace. This exact look came down the runway, but instead of pink it was yellow. I love this. The oroton chain mail, just as a reminder, was invented by Gianni Versace, and it’s so stunning. The damier print is referential to an old Versace collection, and the lace at the neckline is a house code. All in all, a cute little dress with some scrumptious draping on the hip.
- There’s something about a draped jersey that does something to me, especially when it’s in Jonathan Anderson’s hands. This Loewe dress is really an art piece.
- This is not groundbreaking by any means, but this is the first thing I’ve seen Kim wear in a very long time, where I’m like, oh that’s fun! Mainly because I love a coat as shirt situation.
So that was this week. I’m gonna go take a shower so I can go striaght to sleep after the Oscars<3
TTYL!!!
