A bit of a slow week, honestly. Well, men’s fashion week is happening right now, but I think I’ll do a roundup of that with just key moments and highlights instead of doing full reviews of the shows. With that being said, you know me, and you know some of those “key moments” are going to be full paragraphs.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
- Usher for Vogue; I almost missed this. Honestly, had people not complained about it, I don’t think I would have seen anyone talking about it at all. It’s just strange to me as to why the star of this editorial is basically in the background th entire time. Also, he’s wearing Willy Chavarria, which you know I loveee, so I just wish we could see it a little more. Styled by Max Ortega.
- Gisele Bündchen for Harper’s Bazaar; There’s some great fashion moments here— Bottega Veneta, JW Anderson, Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo, Loewe, Miu Miu, Rick Owens. Also Gisele is a model, so she’s actually gonnna sell you on these looks, and paired with Carlos’ styling? Delish. Styled by Carlos Nazario.
- The The New Look trailer dropped! Kind of great casting that Juliette Binoche is playing Coco Chanel, since they’re both the worst. Chanel is sweating. Speaking of shows. I just learned that the new Balenciaga show that dropped on Disney+ isn’t available in the US, so.
- Some great campaigns dropped this week. Now, I don’t normally talk about Skims, but Lana Del Rey for the Valentine’s Day collection, shot by Nadia Cohen, makes so much sense. Her music speaks to a very niche, Tumblr, lingerie, toxic romance kind of Valentine’s Day, and I feel like Lana fans would buy these photos as posters if they were available.
- We also got Kristin Davis for Jacquemus, giving Charlotte York, art dealer. Regardless of what you think about the clothing at Jacqeumus, one can’t deny their incredible campaigns. However came up with this idea deserves a raise.
- Now let’s get through some of the looks from the Critics’ Choice Awards. Starting with Brit Marling in Prada, giving us a chic little banana peal experience. You guys, I like this. I know it didn’t get rave reviews, but there’s something really compelling about this incredibly large fold over at the neckline, as if you’ve stretched a collar. Other than that, the dress is quite simple, and done in a very Prada way with its darts and trains. I don’t know, I’m into it.
- Charles Melton wore Valentino, and that signature Valentino red, and it’s fine. I like that it’s not a traditional black suit, but the break in the pants is a little severe.
- I do like this, and I like when Billie does something a little different from what we usually see her in, while still kind of making the look make sense in her universe. You guys know we stan Thom Browne around here, and I love when he extends a white button up so that it peeks out from underneath a skirt or dress. I love the way the straps are continued into the bust area, however there is something funky happening around the waist. I’m not sure if that’s just the corset falling over the skirt or if it’s bunching, but something’s off.
- There were many thoughts about what this dress looks like, and no one said finger waves, which is the first place my brain went. I love this. It’s simple in silhouette, but it fits her incredibly. The color matches her hair perfectly and the texture almost makes you uncomfy a little bit, but in a good way.
- I have not seen this style of Fendi gown look good on one singular person, and it has absolutely nothing to do with them. You know I’m not in the business of calling anything flattering or unflattering. This is solely about the construction of the garment, and how they can’t figure out how to do these bands while also making sure the dress doesn’t pucker or bunch anywhere.
- How fun! I believe the collection this suit is based on was inspired by the wallpaper in Thom’s bedroom. The color is lovely and it’s tailored to Bella really nicely. I tend to see people say that Thom Browne jackets never fit, but that shrunken style is just the way they do jackets, so it looks exactly how it’s supposed to.
- The coolest bitch to live. Sure, is it just a button up polo with a pair of high waisted pants? Yeah, but it’s also covered in crystals, and the pants are like, ultra high waisted. There’s also something incredibly cool about playing this close line between casual and eveningwear that is most pleasing to me.
- Atsuko Kudo is THE brand to go to for latex. Sometimes, you’ll see people wear latex and it bunches, which feels like it’s kind of ruining the whole point, but not here. The latex spices up a very simple, evening look just enough. I also love that, not only is the neckline scalloped, but so is the train.
- I feel like we haven’t seen Tom on a red carpet in a while! Y’all know Miuccia and I both love a brown moment, and I’m always here for a three piece suit, I just wish the fabric was a little bit smoother. Other than that, it fits quite well, and the black shoe works for me here, because the tie and buttons are also black, so it doesn’t feel too out of place.
- I know it’s January, but this is already one of my favorite looks of the year. He looks rich. This mustard yellow is scrumptious, and I’m not sure if the coat is some kind of gilded wool or if it’s embroidered, but it’s stunning. Everything is tailored to perfection, and I love that he chose pieces from too separate looks that came down the runway and styled them together. Truly, who’s doing it like Colman Domingo?
- This molded leather is something we’ve seen Olivier do in the past, however, I don’t really ever tire of it. I can’t imagine the skill it takes to drape leather in this way, to make it look so wet. Then we have the roses coming off the shoulder, referencing the Spring 2024 collection, to create a really lovely gown. Do we know if she’s referencing a Barbie, btw?
- I’d say this is my favorite of Jermey’s looks from this award season. Love a pinstripe moment, and although the suit is simple, it’s tailored really nicely. I also love the little Elsa Peretti brooch making an appearance!
- I know I give Christian Siriano a very hard time, rightfully so, but this isn’t that bad! I’d say this is the most traditional red carpet look that we’ve seen, and there isn’t too much going on, which is rare from Christian. The color is lovely and the draping could be worse.
- This has the same coolness to me as Greta’s look, in it being on the more casual side. She’s giving 80s Miami, and you know I’m gonna eat up The Row every time— at least I’m honest about it. I know it’s not for everyone, but I like a cuffed hem and I’m into the sunglasses.
- This looks simple at first glance, but then you take a better look at the neckline, and you’re like, ooh, ok. I love that it’s more structured and bulbous, than just being a scalloped neckline. The rest of the gown is what it is, and I don’t think we needed the velvet band tied around the waist, but it’s fine.
- Carey has been a lot simpler recently than I remember her being in past years, but when simple is done well, I can’t be bad at it. It’s fitted incredibly, and the neckline having this peeled back, crystal moment is so good.
- Absolutely! You’re probably like, a striped, shiny jumpsuit? So what? Well, babe, that print is entirely created by little beads. Can you imagine the skill?! Also, the shoes are sick. Ugh, I just loved this collection so much.
So that was this week! I’ve noticed a lot of new subscribers joining recently. Hello! Hope you have a good time. I would love to know how you found me?
TTYL!!!
