You guys, I saw Superman yesterday, and he said fuck Israel, free Palestine, I heard him!!!
Anyway, let’s get into it.
Well, time for me to refollow Celine.
Jokes aside, although Michael Rider’s debut at Celine seems to be getting very mixed reviews, I, for one, was more than pleased and look forward to seeing where he takes the brand. But for now let’s focus on Spring 2026.
About the collection, Rider said, “I hope people want things that last. I don’t think things that last have to feel not exciting. And I think when those two things meet, that’s kind of the place I love things, that you keep and that you can be yourself in. And that are quality.” I agree. The collection was full of fun, and while some might disagree, I thought the styling was fantastic. It was playful and invited you to mix and match, but was also full of pieces that could be worn on their own and would be just as good. There’s something to be said about quality clothing that is identifiable and covetable without screaming that it belongs to a specific brand. With that being said, all the new LVMH appointees made sure to include pieces with the brand name and logo within their collections and Rider was no different. Although something that doesn’t work for me more times than it does, it isn’t surprising. A logo is almost like the joint holding two bones together. One bone is commercial, “quiet luxury” and the other is a distinct point of view. We seem to be on our way from one to the other and a logo will always be a safe bet for a sale.
Speaking about distinct points of view, I think Rider had one more so than he’s been given credit. There were the classic cuts– nipped waists, wide shoulders, tapered billowy pants– picked up from his time working under Phoebe Philo at Celine and Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, and while it was just more classic than anything, there were elements of prep and layering picked up from his time at Ralph Lauren– most recently as creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren. Then there were the little nods to Hedi Slimane that one could see in the skinny pants, of course, but I mainly felt in attitude. All of that wrapped up in a Parisian bourgeoisie bow and sprinkled with his personal style. The point of view was Rider– his life, his experiences. He did not fall out of a coconut tree!!! None of us did. As much as we would like to think that our (my) experience as a student athlete has nothing to do with why we love dressing up athleisure or incorporating sportswear into our daily lives, that just isn’t the reality. And isn’t there something so wonderful about carrying your history with you, about it being part of the way you express yourself?
To me, this looks like a designer who knows how to read the room while also understanding that Celine is a Parisian luxury brand. He understands where Celine has been and where it is now, just presented us with some really nice clothes! Large billowing sleeves of sweatshirts were delicious and layered t-shirts were sexy. There was a lot of really good outerwear and a lot of really well tailored pieces. I will say, I didn’t understand some of the womenswear– specifically when it came to evening gowns– and we could expand on shoes and bags for sure, but overall, a fantastic first collection!
- David Corenswet for GQ; Isn’t t crazy how him and Henry Cavill look so similar but he has so much more sauce?? Anyway, I like the whole Clark Kent/Superman approach of this. It’s fun without being too on the nose cheesy. It’s very classic, all American boy. Styled by Spencer Phipps.
- David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult for Wonderland; This is from May, but it was just brought to my attention this week and I need it brought to yours. Styled by Thomas Christos Kikis.
- Doechii for British Vogue; Another win for British Vogue! I love, love love Elizaveta’s photography and the styling really lends itself to it. She looks incredible. Styled by Stella Greenspan.
- Anne Hathaway for Vogue; Another loss for Vogue! Y’all know I’m Annie Leibovitz’s number one hater, so this was not for me. I will say, she’s wearing Givenchy throughout and it does not feel like a campaign, so that’s good. Styled by Tabitha Simmons.
- Luke Newton is playing Lee McQueen in an off-Broadway production called House of McQueen. I think I might be nosy enough to want to go and see this.
- Beth Ditto on Fashion Neruosis<3
- They said Jeff Bezos is gonna buy Vogue for Lauren Sanchez. There is not one outlet that posted this that I would trust, so.
- The OG Birkin sold for 8.6 million euros. Weird that Hermès didn’t buy it, idk.
- I’m OBSESSED with this Agent Provocateur look Beyoncé wore. It might be one of my favorites that we’ve gotten from this tour. Idk, I think it’s so audacious and the idea of a full bodysuit meant to look like barely there lingerie is so funny.
- An icon, truly. This is so deliciously regal. The soft an structured work together effortlessly.
- Obviously I wish he was wearing the boots, but this still looks great. I like that his styling has been a little edgy for this press tour. Like, just the right amount of villainy.
- Then David taking the more classic approach makes so much sense. Love a three piece suit, and this one fits nicely! It can be difficult to get the arms right on a jacket for someone who is on the buffer side.
Also, he was so funny for this, but Nicholas did eat him up, I fear.
- I wanted to include this because she played Hawkgirl and I like that this dress feels kind of feathery. Also, I think the mesh is done quite well.
- Love an Alaïa pregnancy look! Who better to show off the bump than the man that was known as the king of cling! The way the straps come down the body also kind of makes it feel a bit super hero suit-ish.
This Givenchy look was also lovely! The asymmetrycal pleated front, the high neck, the low back— all so good!
And I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of these Loewe dresses.
- Julie Ragolia does him so good. These neck scarfs are so Haider, and I’m obsessed with the undone feel of it all.
More Tom Ford, this time a little more buttoned up, but just as yummy. The flipped lapel is fun, and I saw people kept trying to fix it lmao. I like that the suit has a little monochrome polkadot situation happening and the pants are perfectly baggy.
- This suit is kind of really good. I love how thin the lines of the silk moiré are— it almost feels like it’s playing off of a pinstripe suit.
- Stunning; a fashion girl!! I like that she’s been committing to the silver because of the Silver Surfer of it all. Do I wish it had the trompe l’oeil waistcoat and tie underneath? Sure, but I get that this is more eveningwear appropriate and it still works for me. Although, I do wish it clung to her body a little better, because you can see the mesh lift by her waist, and I’m assuming that’s because the rest of the dress is heavier and is pulling it. Either way, love it, and those sequins are also so incredible. They’re done in a way that makes it look like the dress is draped.
Then she gave us this lovely little daytime moment! Just a really nice, simple slip.
- How insane is this Givenchy look on Lucky Love?! Sarah Burton, give me Givenchy Couture, PLEASE!!!!!!!
So that was this week! I almost forgot today was Sunday and had not written anything, at all. So. Couture reviews coming this week!
TTYL!!!
xx
Oh this was such a GOOD roundup!
