A lot of the looks at the Grammys this year were fine, but kind of unremarkable. I honestly felt like most people were giving Oscars instead of Grammys. Anyway, happy all my girlies and Kendrick Lamar.
I’m obviously not thrilled that it’s Dolce & Gabbana, but at least it’s something. This gold corseting and headpiece is quite nice, but honestly, I feel like they could have gone even bolder with it.
Album Of The Year winner, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, wore Schiaparelli Haute Couture and while it is quite simple, it’s also very lovely, and actually makes the most sense. Daniel Roseberry, the creative director of Schiaparelli, is from Texas as well, and he’s an American in Paris designing couture. It feels quite synergistic with the Beyoncé, Cowboy Carter, Western culture in America of it all. Who gets to belong where, etc. Now the dress itself features a paisley bandana print that incorporates that playfulness of Schiaparelli in an obviously fitting way. She also had a trompe l’oeil “monkey fur” stole made of feathers that added to the glamour of it all. As for the underwire that popped out of the bust area… I’m going to pretend I did not see it.
I love Prada and I love a nautical moment. This looks is really like catnip for me, and I like the “taboo” pairing of navy and black. Also, in very Prada fashion, there was a white flap of fabric on the back that I found endearing. It’s quite casual for the event, but I’m still sold on it— it’s cool.
Cardi is wearing a custom Cavalli look based on the Spring 2025 collection, and while I do think we need to give the Cavalli tiger print a short vacation for how hard we continue to make her work, she looks incredible. The fit is immaculate, and the dress is equal parts glamour and garish (complimentary).
I saw people get mad at her for calling this vintage, which like, lmao, relax, but also it is vintage. Anything 20 years or older is considered vintage. Now that that’s out of the way, no notes! This is so fabulous and fun, and so Chappell! My favorite part of this dress is the way the tutus the Degas ballerinas are wearing become part of the ruffles of Chappell’s skirt— such good design.
She also wore custom Thom Browne, based on Fall 2024 Couture, and I loved seeing this in denim! This entire collection was largely done in muslin, so this makes it feel a lot more Midwestern princess.
And we have our first custom couture piece from JPG’s Spring 2025 Couture collection by Ludovic de Saint Sernin! I mean, fab, what do you want me to say? Going with gray feels more Brat than the original white, but the fit is just as sickening. This collection was very much giving lost at sea, so I actually think it maybe could have been cool if the color was, like, algae Brat green, idk.
However, I weirdly think I enjoyed this more? It’s obviously a lot more simple, but there’s something just so effortlessly cool about it. I like that both looks have that tattered feel to them, though.
Listen, it’s a sheer dress with a sheer cape, but I really enjoy it. It’s very Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent. The necklace is ruining the chic simplicity, though. I do, however, want to use this opportunity to discuss the Bianca Censori of it all. Now, I am not saying I am pro or against any of the things I’m about to talk about, I just think it’s interesting when we consider the different ways they are talked about. What is different from Bianca wearing essentially nothing and Saint Laurent putting a whole collection made with pantyhose down the runway, or Bella Hadid standing naked on a runway as people spray paint her a dress, or everything Sabrina Carpenter does being a sexual innuendo. Why is one considered an artistic expression while the other is brainwashing. I don’t know these people and neither do you, so we don’t know all that goes on behind the scenes, but I happen to know that there are past looks Bianca has worn that she herself helped co designed with brands and her stylist (who is not Kanye). Also, I think if she had a bush we all would have thought it was cool.
Tragic, really. The rippling in the boning, if you can even call it that, is enough to give me a chronic illness flare up.
It definitely makes sense in the Louis Vuitton universe of simple, but I kind of wish the silver was a hard breastplate instead of leather.
Now this was almost as stunning as her voice. There’s something beetle-esque about the way the velvet rests over the taffeta that I enjoy, and the bubbled skirt is just so fun.
An icon in the making, y’all. I listened to Doechii talk about how she was researching the change in hip hop that happened around the time that Jay-Z started wearing suits instead of jeans, and how it kind of brought rap and hip hop into a new world. She wanted her looks for the night to give, class is in session, and I think her in Thom Browne was perfect for that. There is also something here about Doechii and Black dandyism that should be discussed, but I don’t think I’m the person for that. Anyway, this suit dress with its exaggerated hips is stunning, and the back is entirely laced up in red!!
I loved her second look even more. The crinoline pants? Are you stupid?!!!!! It’s just all too good. Love the journey her looks took us on throughout the night.
There’s something very innocent about this that is almost unsettling, and the black waistband feels so severe.
You know what, hell yeah. The jacket is actually very nice. I know I don’t always have the most complimentary things to say about Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton, but the cut of the waist and the shape of the sleeves are both gorg.
Janelle is wearing a look from a collection that explored the policing of our bodies and not only is that very fitting with the current state of everything, but it’s also just a very nice suit.
I love Hodakova and I love Julia, but I’m not sold on the vision here, especially when I know how strong of a brand Hodakova is.
Every time I see fancy skirt with tank top I think of that one Anna Wintour look, where she’s wearing Balmain by Oscar de la Renta— you know the one. That is probably my favorite look of hers, which is why it makes Kacey’s fall short. Anna’s look works because of its effortlessness, whereas this is trying too hard to be precise. You know?
I like this Robert Wun takes pinstripe suit and freaks it moment, but it’s not the most groundbreaking look I’ve ever seen from the brand. Fitted beautifully, though, but like, duh.
Kendrick in a Maison Margiela CANADIAN tuxedo, heehee. Okay. Period.
Someone said Lady Gaga is at her best when she’s vaguely Catholic, and tea. Love this gothic experience and love that she’s wearing a small designer. Speaking of wearing a small designer, far too many BIG publications wrote that she was wearing Vivienne Westwood without even confirming. Do better. Also! Her necklace is from the 1930s (one of my favorite eras of fashion) and has never been worn before, so.
She also wore Valentino a la Alessandro Michele, which you already know I have no notes about. She looks so dreamy.
Was Britney Spears at the 2000 Grammy Awards on the moodboard for this one? I mean, you know how I feel about reference for the sake of reference and nothing more. It’s nice, but I’ve seen Latto in so much better.
She’s so cool, it’s dumb. I mean, leather halter dress with cutout— simple but good.
The custom Alaïa with the call out was everything.
MUSTAAAAAAAARD. Love the cardigan so much. I’m assuming there’s little eye hooks to close it, and it’s opened the perfect amount for the tie to show.
In terms of Olivia always just wearing something simple and pretty forgettable, this kind of follows that same formula. Except that this time it fits her like a glove, and that pleating coming down from the bust and around the hips to the back is sickening, and I love a dangerously low open back.
I do love when Armani does liquidy organza, and Raye does love herself some glamour, but I do think this would have been more effective if it was a touch shorter.
Pure perfection. This is actually not only perfect in its pulling from things we’ve seen Jonathan put on the runway, but also in its Shirley MacLaine a la What a Way to Go! reference. You might recall Sabrina wearing a dress previously worn by Madonna to an award show, which kind of felt boring and uninspired to me in terms of reference, whereas this makes perfect sense to me in terms of her entire creative direction.
I loved these shredded looks on the runway and I still don’t think this jacket is bad, I just don’t think they should have twisted the fringe like that before draping it over the shoulder— too clunky.
Lmao, girl, anyway.
I prefer this Robert Wun look over Kehlani’s. The draping here feels very clean everywhere and there’s no place where the two fabrics feel like they’re fighting each other. I also love the nails on the gloves.
The Dare wearing what he always wears. Which like, fine, but at least make sure your pants are tailored to perfection. Also, put him in 90s Prada, you cowards!!!!!!!
You remember when Addison Rae got nervous talking about Troye Sivan because she loves him so much? I’ve never related to anyone more. Anyway, look at this dreamy, periwinkle, silk organza boy. I’m so obsessed with this. I’m pretty sure Troye’s stylist, Marc Forne, posted a photo of Uma Thurman at the 1995 Oscars as inspiration for this, and dare I say, I like this even more.
So those were the Oscars! What did you think, who were your best and worst dressed? Anyway, g2g to hot yoga.
TTYL!!!
