Miley Cyrus Is A Star
Do you guys watch award shows? Growing up, I remember I’d watch every single one with my parents, and while a few have left the rotation, I feel like I still have to watch them every year. Anyway, the Grammys are to music what the Oscars are to acting, however I don’t feel like there were all that many fashion moments this year. Like, that was a fully packed room, but were people there?
Anyway let’s get into it.
You’ve heard me say this a million times, but look how easy it is to spice up a simple menswear look! Yes, it’s plain black suit, but it fits incredibly well, and the studs lining the lapel-less jacket and running down the pants add enough intrigue. I also think the gloves work really nicely here and I’m into the square toed shoe.
Bebe Rexha isn’t usually someone I’m paying attention to on the red carpet, but here she’s in Robert Wun, so I can’t just ignore it! This is simpler for Robert Wun, however it still features evident house codes, like this overlapping draping. Although there is a few different fabrics being used, it doesn’t feel overwhelming since the dress is all black, and generally quite simple. I believe Bebe has spoken about how it was often hard for her to find a designer willing to dress her body type, so it’s so wonderful seeing her in such a lovely gown by an incredible designer.
So, the look on the left is what we actually saw Beyoncé wear at the Grammys, and the left is the look that came down the runway for the Spring 2024 Menswear collection. Listen, the night wasn’t about Beyoncé, she was just there supporting her husband, so I’m not mad at something a little more casual. It’s in the LV damier print that Pharrell has been making a focus of his collections so far, and I like the skinny pussy bow, because I feel like it’s kind of playing into the bolo ties as well. Y’all know I love a good headpiece or hat, so I’m happy she went full cowboy with it.
There’s not much to say about Finneas— he’s just wearing a black shirt and black pants. Okay, great. Now, Billie. Here’s the thing, I’m not mad at a little Chrome Hearts x Barbie collection, and I know they were nominated for a song they wrote for Barbie, however this feels very much like merch, and I’m just not sure it was worn for the right even. She’s wearing Willy Chavarria underneath, which we stan, and I’m sure he could have provided a scrumptious oversized jacket of some sort to make this look perfect.
Billie had a little wardrobe change for her performance and channeled the 1965 ‘Poodle Parade’ Barbie. Billie is styled by Andrew Mukamal, who is also Margot Robbie’s stylist, and we usually see the Barbie recreation looks on her, so it’s fun to see them on someone else. I’m not sure who designed this, because Andrew just hash tagged “Studio Mukamal” so? Is he responsible? Regardless, this is very sweet, and I’m always here for a bit of method dressing. I think it would have been really interesting to try and combine Billie’s usual style with that of a Barbie— that could have been a fun red carpet look.
Y’all know I love a silk moiré, and it’s absolutely stunning in this white. The suits are in that signature shrunken style Thom Browne is known for and they fit great. I feel like boygenius usually wear Thom Browne, however instead of all wearing the same thing, they more-so coordinate, but since they don’t do this very often, I think it’s fine every once in a while. I think the arm band and boutonniere are a nice touch. It’s also nice to see them wearing pins calling for a ceasefire.
Okay Miss Caroline!!! I didn’t know you had it like that. A vintage Olivier Theyskens pull is most pleasing to ME. This collection explored the Florentines study of anatomy, as well as that of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Olivier was also thinking of the concept of feelings and emotions and how there is both a harshness and vulnerability to them. That’s channeled really beautifully through that red, sheer lace shoulder and how it branched out into these veins, running down the body before coming into this beautiful large skirt. It’s enchanting, but also a bit uncomfy, and is just a stunning red carpet moment.
Celine Dion made a surprise appearance at the Grammys to present album of the year, and she looked stunning. As you may know, Law Roach is retired for everyone except Zendaya, however he came out of retirement for one night to dress Celine, and that feels so, so special. Celine has stiff person syndrome, and cold environments can trigger muscle spasms, so that might be why they went with a look that featured a coat. Honestly, I kind of like these two pieces and how they don’t exactly feel like they should be seen together. There’s something very, out late at night with your lover and they give you their coat to keep you warm, about it. The chiffon gown underneath is also draped very nicely. Listen, this Valentino Couture collection wasn’t anything crazy, but the clothing was beautiful.
Both Chlöe and Halle’s looks tend to be very hit or miss, but when they hit, they HIT. Guarav is known for his very swirly, structured styles, and this is really stunning. It almost looks like she’s being wrapped by branches of a tree and I’m into it.
Okay Christina!!! Standing Ground is one of my favorite emerging brands, and I’m just so excited to see them grow. The brand often works with jersey fabrics and manipulates them in intriguing ways. Last season, they worked with these beads, and placed each individual bead between two pieces of the jersey fabric. Here you van see that coming down from under the drape on Christina’s hip, and I’m obsessed. Anal beads but make it fashion!
I don’t know who Coco stylist is, but I just feel like they’re not playing into her full fashion girl potential. This isn’t bad, but it isn’t incredible memorable. It fits quite well and the body chain underneath is a nice touch, however the ruching into the center could be a bit cleaner.
Oh, I’m obsessed. With her past two shows, we’ve seen Dilara explore these sheer styles, and work with a lot of corseting. Although the dress itself is quite simple, we all know that Doja always lends herself to become one with the look, and I think the fully tattooed moment is really what makes it. It also reminds of the collection where Dilara had things like hair and jewelry encased in the garments. I like the red platform heels, and the dorky glasses. Also, the Dilara Findikoglu forehead tattoo, PLEASE.
Nicolas Di Felice really know show to do effortless coolness at Courrèges, which is why his clothing is so sexy. This embroidery does read a little more Paco Rabanne to me, however I still think it makes sense in the world of Courregèges, and these hipbone cutouts are something we’ve seen the brand explore quite a bit. I love the way this metallic fringe literally looks like scales coming off of her body and the serpentine jewelry goes very well with it— especially since the little rubies compliment her hair nicely.
This is a great custom look for Sabato de Sarno’s Gucci. I think it’s a great example of the more subdued glamour we can expect after Alessandro Michele’s time as creative director. The fit is incredible, and I love how it just molds to her body without the need of a waist seam. I know we’ve just started to see custom looks under Sabato, but I have a difficulty spotting them sometimes, but the reason this is smart, is because it ties in the runway collections a bit with the fringe at the bottom of the gown. If he works on identifiability, I feel like the Gucci custom pieces will be killer. The runway on the other hand… I’m trying to stay hopeful.
This is so fucking good. Are you JOKING?! This Baby Phat denim and fur two-piece is so NYC Y2K, and makes perfect sense with Ice Spice’s overall aesthetic. I also just love seeing evening wear styles done in a non-traditional way, because subverting ideas of what is to be expected in certain environments and on certain people is always compelling. Definitely one of my favorites of the night.
Janelle typically wears black and white so this is obviously following that color palette, and it’s also a very Armani gown in terms of silhouette, neckline, and floral detail. I don’t love the rosette right in the center but I get it. Since it’s Armani, it fits incredibly, of course, and although Armani has an older, more conservative clientele, it’s been interesting to see them making styles that are a bit more youthful and fun. There’s that age long saying about how Armani dresses the wife and Versace dresses the mistress, however, I think they play with that sentiment a lil more nowadays.
I have mixed feelings about this. For starters, you could have told me this was Chanel, Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton, Versace, etc. and I would have believed you. I like the kilt layered over the pants, and paired with a military style jacket— after all, kilts used to be worn in battle. It’s always nice seeing something that isn’t a plain black suit, and I’m always here for a heeled boot, however I think the pants could fit better, because they’re throwing off the whole thing for me.

I didn’t do a mens fashion week review on here just because I didn’t have time and it was overall quite underwhelming. With that being said, even though the Gucci menswear show still wasn’t fantastic, I did think it was a lot more compelling than the womenswear show. Also, when I talked about it on TikTok, I said that we’d see an internet boyfriend wearing this look, and now here we are. Yet, it doesn’t hit the same here as it did on the runway, and dare I say, that the little green gloves made the look?
You know what, this is what she gets for wearing Dolce. Problematic brand aside, there’s something strange about how far this lacing goes down, and it almost feels like it’s dragging the dress into the ground.
Because of course Lana is just wearing some vintage pieces she found. A lot of people said this was ugly, because it isn’t flattering, and as you know, I am never in the business of calling something flattering or unflattering. Our idea of what is flattering is very often filtered through a very Eurocentric lens and just implies that there is a right and wrong way to look. So, with that being said, I think this is cute! It fits nicely, and I love how the bow details are carried throughout the whole look. It’s a little romantic, a little gothic, and a lot Lana.
A fashion girl!!! Laverne often wears pieces from her own archive, and I don’t know if this is one of them, but regardless, it’s still such a fun pull! I love this little apple shaped, queen of hearts moment. It’s also fun to see period styles, like this panier silhouette, paired with more modern textiles, like this vinyl.
Just Lenny Kravitz, looking hot, as usual. What else do you want me to say? Jokes aside, Rick is very specific about who he dresses and how, so it’s cool to see Lenny wearing Rick in a way that we don’t usually see Rick styled.
I’m not too familiar with this brand, but a did a quick little search, and while they do make regular evening gowns, they also do bridal, and this is one of their bridal gowns. Listen, it’s stunning. It’s not anything crazy, but it’s doing a good job being exactly what it is. The waist is snatched and that bell shaped skirt is really beautiful. Due to the bridal of it all, I understand the train, however, it feels a little strange with the shape of the skirt, and looks a bit like it was attached after the fact.
Everyone giving Mariah a standing ovation just for walking on stage was the only appropriate course of action. Anyway, this is very simple and it’s a very formulaic Mariah look, so I’m not blown away, but it does fit her perfectly and she looks stunning.
Why did I just learn, at the 2024 Grammy Awards that Mark Ronson is Meryl Streep’s son-in-law? That doesn’t feel right. Anyway, Mark’s suit is simple, but I love a brown, and I like that it appears to have a waistcoat layered underneath. I don’t feel like it would have been too hard to put on a brown loafer instead of a black one, though. As for Grace, also simple, and I don’t have much to say, but this reads Sabato’s Gucci to me, so at least there’s that.
This might be custom Maison Margiela, but let’s be real, this is all Galliano, no Margiela. Specifically, this look is based on John Galliano’s FW1997 collection. Honestly, I’m obsessed. Naked style dresses aren’t really groundbreaking anymore, but this one is done incredibly well, especially considering the fact that there isn’t any mesh. It took almost 700 hours to make and is made entirely of safety pins and antique beads. Miley was giving us 1970s glamour all night, and gave us outfit change after outfit change, which I respect. Also, the gold tabis!!!
Imagine a photo of you that looks this good existing? Oh, you wouldn’t be able to tell me anything. Anyway, for her performance she was channeling Cher and Tina Turner in vintage Bob Mackie. This little mini was stunning and I loved the technicolor shapes scattered throughout.
The last Miley look I wanted to talk about was this custom Gucci moment. It definitely fits in with the 70s glam of it all, and it is stunning. It fits beautifully and the way it’s pleated on the bias to gather at the side of this opening is lovely. However, if she hand’t been carrying that little bamboo bag, I would have thought this was Valentino. This is what I meant when I said the Gucci custom pieces have to find what their voice is a little bit.
This is a lovely gown, however, I’m tired of being this bored. It also doesn’t help that Olivia never tried to sell you on a garment. What happened to people having fun at the Grammys?
Speaking of fun! I LOVE! This is a fantastic feathery fantasy, and it fits incredibly. I love that the bust area and skirt are a bit exaggerated due to the feathers to create even more emphasis on the waist. Also! You already know how I feel about the hat. Love. A. Headpiece.
This is criminal. I’ve never seen Schiaparelli styled so poorly in my life. The dress is lovely— the way it’s draped over the hip is delicious and I love the structured neckline. However, the black velvet glove is overwhelming and I don’t give a fuck what the clock choker means, because those necklaces make no sense. Also, I don’t know anything about hair, but that is not correct.

This is very Versace, and I understand the draping, cutouts, asymmetry, and crystal of it all, however, I wish the mesh areas were entirely sheer, so that it looked more like a naked style dress. The sea-foam green is lovely too, but she just looks like she’s going ice skating.
Finally, we have Grammy winner, Victoria Monét, in custom Versace. Since it’s Versace, the boning is boning and the corset is snatched, but I do feel like the bust area has some unnecessary curve. The pleating around the hips also feels a bit out of place since the rest of the gown is so simple and smooth. Other than that, she looks stunning and I’m so happy she won(‘:
So that was the Grammys! What did we think? My best dressed were Miley Cyrus, Caroline Polachek, Summer Walker, Laverne Cox, and Ice Spice. Worst has to go to Taylor Swift and Kylie Minogue.

Today I found out the stylist who helped put together Taylor Swift's Eras Tour costumes (good, so good, beautiful, flawless, fun yet refined, every look is distinct and also all make sense together) is apparently the same person who dresses her the rest of the time (bad, always bad, even when a lot of it is good something about it is always bafflingly bad), and my brain does not know what to do with this information. Also those boygenius Thom Browne moire suits are just so good.
