Be prepared for a lot of Gucci, given the fact that the brand sponsored this event. Anyway, since we just spoke yesterday, I don’t really have much updates for you. Everything is still the same. The CFDA awards are tonight, so you might be seeing me in your inbox three days in a row!
Addison better hold on to Ryan Hastings and never let him go, because this is the best she’s ever looked. I know this is the first look we’re discussing, but I can already tell you that Addison was the best dress of the night. This dress fits her incredibly, the pool at the bottom is perfect, the scooped neckline is hot, and the beaded necklace coming down the front and back is delicious. I told y’all she was an it-girl; start listening!!!
While not my favorite look from the collection, I do like it and how it combines both Olivier and JPG’s work. The hooded style and sharp shoulder feel very Olivier, and this silver belt and shoe situation is a direct nod to the JPG ‘Clasique’ perfume can.
I like this. It’s simple, but I think it plays on traditional menswear enough to not make it feel boring and played out. The blue velvet is really lovely, and this unbuttoned yellow shirt underneath compliments it nicely. If you look closely, not only is there a floral print on the suit, there’s also little polkadots. It fits him well, it’s fine.
While they look very comfy, I am very uncomfy!!! This is the couples red carpet debut, and I just think they know exactly what they’re doing with this sleepy time look. Since this is a fashion newsletter, I will say that I do like this idea. Grandpa aside, we’ve seen Billie in this Gucci monogram before and I think this large blanket and lingerie style dress play with the extermination of her usual style.
I like the full dedication to the robe and sleep mask. The lace trim is also very Gucci, and I like the monogram on monogram with the tight and glove. I know I don’t typically love a monogram or logomania moment, but here it has a more “vintage” feel, so I enjoy it.
You know, I’ll admit, I thought this was Alexander McQueen at first glance. I spoke previously about how Carey Mulligan often wears these beautiful, extravagant looks, and doesn’t know how to sell us on them. I feel the same way about this, but maybe a little less since the blazer adds a business casual flair. Anyway, I do like the look in general. I think this heavily sequined dress paired with the blazer, adding even more sequins, works and is very Gucci.
I believe this is from the Gucci Love Parade collection, and while I think it’s fine, I’m not understanding why we brought the train of the skirt to the side? This is supposed to be a mini with a long skirt. I also wish the trim on the skirt matched the pink trim on the sleeves. Also I’m not into her choice of bra.
I’m not sure who Christine is wearing, but I’m not obsessed. It’s not terrible, and I like how the lining is ruffled, but overall there’s nothing that impressive about it.
This is a little disappointing in terms of Gucci suiting. Elliot tends to go simple when it comes to red carpet looks, but simplicity aside, the fit of those pants is not good. We know Gucci is capable of well tailored suits, so something this simple should be extra crisp.
I promise I’m not being drugged, I really do like this. It’s simple, but it’s sweet, and it’s Michael Kors, so I’m not expecting something insane. The skirt is really beautiful, and I like the ballerina feel of the backless leotard. She looks nice!
I’m not impressed. Come on Heidi, you can’t be a full worm one day only to give us the bare minimum the next. I like a red and purple color combo, but who cares.
I really love this. I love that there’s that bit of 1930s flair we see from Alessandro often, and how it’s in Janelle’s usual black and white. There’s a lot happening here with the sequins, feathers, beading, and cutouts, but it is Gucci after all, and more is more! I do wish that the headpiece had been beaded as well, though. The leaves feel a little too Grecian.
Jared Leto would have worn Gucci regardless of who hosted the event, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been a little more interesting. It’s not a bad suit; it fits well and I look the crystal embroidery. The gloves should have been white to match the shoes.
This is on the simpler side, but still really lovely. It has that 1920s/30s essence and it fits Jodie really nicely. I like this embroider fringe and how the chevron continues to the jagged hemline. I’m into the matching gloves, but I wish the black portions had all been velvet instead of turning into a sequin; it would have felt more cohesive.
I don’t know who Jude Law is wearing, but honestly, I don’t want to know. Whoever designed this should not claim it. That bronze satin is doing no one any favors. The outfit just looks messy.
Julia Garner is a fashion girl and I love this. It’s a really beautiful gown and it fits her very well. I like how the way the sequins drip into the chiffon mimics the curves cutouts of the neckline. I love that green and the padded shoulder and half glove at a bit of an 80s flair. Well done.
Kathryn Hahn loves herself a cool suited moment, and I also feel like she tends to wear black. That aside, I do like this waistcoat, jumpsuit(?) situation, but I do feel that it’s a bit too large. The ruffled glove is interesting, and I do like the unfinished lining of the top.
I don’t know why Kendall has a pause button on her stomach, but I do know that I want to take a pause on this look. Whatever these open breast curtains are trying to do is not working. I honestly would have preferred a simple mesh top, tits out, with this draped skirt.
I like this dress. I really enjoyed these neoprene looks that Demna showed at the start of his Fall 2022 Couture collection. I know sometimes it’s easy to look at the things Demna puts out at Balenciaga and wonder what they have to do with the brand at all, but if you really pay attention, he is referencing Cristobal Balenciaga in his own modern way. This skin hugging neoprene was Demna’s interpretation of gazar, a sculptural silk Cristobal Balenciaga invented to add his signature volume to garments. It’s that same innovation he was tapping into from all those years ago to create a new interesting fabric. With all of that being said, this fits Kim very well and I love the rounded shoulder, but I do wish she’d could consider at least one new sillohette.
I swear to god, Laura is the only person that has made this collection look good, and I liked this collection!!! Anyway, she’s been in her quite luxury era and I love that for her; very cunty. I love this brown jersey dress and how the hood connects to it. The open back is delicious and I love a chunky bangle; I would have done even more bangles.
This is one of their most cohesive moments to date. Starting from the left, we have Ethan in a satin striped suit and blue button up underneath. I like the ruffle on the shirt and how it feels a bit 80s, and I think the flair of the pants and the crystal embroidery is good. Thomas is the only person wearing a suit that doesn’t have a matching top and bottom, and that’s grinding my gears. It’s as if he’s wearing the reverse of both Ethan and Damiano’s suits and I wish he just had his own cohesive look. The shirt underneath is good though. I like Victoria’s lace dress and it fits her beautifully, but I’m not understanding the choice of a thigh high boot here? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in a stiletto, and I don’t think that’s really her style, but perhaps an open toe chunky platform? Damiano’s suit is fine, it fits well and I like the scarf around the neck.
I can’t exactly tell if that’s purple or blue, but this feels a touch too patriotic for me. Again I think the chevron is fine, and I like the the hemline continues that jagged pattern; girlboss away! The red latex glove feels very Gucci, but I would like to know why there’s a band around the waist? It breaks up the pattern in a strange why, and I don’t understand why we couldn’t just have made the dress fit well. I also feel like anytime Olivia wears anything a little more obscure or interesting, she never sells me on it. I want her to make me believe she loves her outfit, the same way I want Carey to.
I actually don’t have confirmation that this is Versace, but given the fact that she closed the last show and this looks like oroton chainmail to me, I’d say there’s a good chance it is. While it is one of the more intriguing looks Paris has worn, it’s not making sense to me. The skirt looks like the drape has just been tucked into that strange waistband, and then the top is also strangely draped. I feel like we need one less design element happening.
Tiffany’s should really sponsor her after this one. This is not great and I want better for Quinta. There’s nothing at all remarkable about this dress, but at least the taffeta isn’t incredibly wrinkled. Also, why the waistband? Why?
This is truly so uninspired. She’s obviously beautiful and this fits well, but it’s just so boring. I don’t know if a side braid was the right hairstyle for this look, and the hood feels like an afterthought. It doesn’t feel as cohesive with the dress as Laura’s did. Does every brand give their ambassadors the worst looks? I thought that was a Chanel thing.
Salma is married to François-Henri Pinault, this women could have anything made for her and she always under delivers. I’ve come to terms with the fact that Salma likes a simpler look, but I can not except it being ugly. The idea is there. I like the lace peaking out of the draped neckline and on the hem of the dress. I like the ombré of the colors. I like the embroidery. I like the matching glove. The construction of the top, however, is horrendous. It looks so lumpy and bumpy and I’m not understanding why we needed a band around the waistline.
This is not great. There’s too much happening and because of that I feel like it all gets lost. Giving this dress and empire waistline was also not the right move.
I’m not sure who Sebastian is wearing but it’s very boring. While I think black and navy blue do work together, here I’m being convinced that it’s a fashion rule that shouldn’t be broken. I’m also not sure what style his pants are trying to be.
Honestly, why couldn’t we have just gone with a tulle Giambattista number? It could have possibly been boring, but I’m almost sure it would have been better. These rosette style sleeves make no sense with this chiffon mini, and I don’t know who thought the matching tights were the right move here. If we were going for a monochrome moment, why not make the shoes match too?
Again, I don’t know who Taron is wearing, but that’s fine. I really wish he’d just worn black velvet pants to match the jacket. The black jacket feels too stark against all the white and the pants are just too puckered. Also, the most distressing part of this look to me is that I can see his ankle; why is he not wearing socks?
Ending on a very good note, we have Thuso Mbedu wearing Gucci. I love this metallic green against the blue floral lace, that also appears to have a bit of a metallic sheen. That serpentine bodice is so stunning and the accordion pleating of the skirt is lovely. I also really love how those two lines coming down from the bust pour right into the skirt; *chef’s kiss*. My one complaint would be the necklace, I don’t think it’s at all necessary.
So what did we think? A bit underwhelming, I know, but not too bad! My best dressed are definitely Addison Rae, Julia Garner, and Thuso Mbedu. Worst goes to Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, and Kendall Jenner.
TTYL!!!
